Equality Health’s approach to value-based care was holistic and lifestyle-driven: focused on helping patients overcome the daily hurdles and life circumstances—such as lack of childcare, no transportation to appointments, or inability to find a PCP—that keep them from accessing the mental, behavioral, and physical care they need. In an industry disillusioned with current value-based care models, Equality Health needed a way to prove it was different, while expanding to new states, providers, and health plans.
Proving there’s more to value-based care than just potential.
For healthcare providers and health plans, the value-based care model (where providers are paid based on the quality of patient outcomes) was a promising idea in theory, but had yet to live up to its potential. Unable to control patient adherence/compliance with treatment plans and wellness visits—especially among more difficult patient populations in Medicaid—doctors were hesitant to tie their revenue to outcomes that were out of their control.
A thorough understanding of the landscape and meaningful insight from target audiences revealed that critical moments of care often happen outside the doctor’s office. This fueled a campaign that highlights Equality Health’s intimate understanding of patient struggles and motivations and how by filling gaps in care, they help achieve the small, everyday victories that hold massive value in transforming outcomes and lives.
