Internal Rollout

Power is a service people only think about when something goes wrong.

Reliability is expected. Consistency is assumed. And in an industry built on infrastructure, regulations, and operations, most utilities communicate through the language of systems, programs, and policies.

For Yampa Valley Electric Association (YVEA), that trust had been earned over 85 years of service. Members knew the crews, employees lived in the communities they served, and the cooperative had become woven into daily life of the Yampa Valley.

But the strongest utility brands aren’t built on power. They’re built on trust. And yet, inside the organization, something felt disconnected.

We heard a consistent theme from employees: people were proud of the work they did, but struggled to articulate what the YVEA brand stood for. There was no shared language that united departments, crews, leadership, and member-facing teams.

The brand wasn’t fully serving the people responsible for bringing it to life.

We set out to build a brand that employees could rally around, that reflected the organization’s values, and that positioned YVEA for the future without losing the trust and familiarity it had spent decades earning. To ground the brand in the people behind it, we established a Brand Ambassadors team—an internal group responsible for pressure-testing ideas, offering critical employee perspective, and helping ensure the strategy and identity felt authentic to YVEA from the inside out.

Through research with employees, members, and community stakeholders, one insight emerged above all others: The Yampa Valley isn’t defined by a single way of life.

It’s a region of different priorities, perspectives, communities, and expectations. And as a member-owned cooperative, YVEA’s role isn’t to champion one vision of the future. It’s to reliably serve all of them.

The insight that energy should adapt to people, not the other way around, became the foundation of brand development.

It helped us establish a clear role for the new YVEA brand: reliable, adaptable power solutions shaped by members and delivered with the expertise and care of a local co-op, so energy works for every way of life.

Most importantly, this direction established trust as the central audience benefit.

The resulting identity system was inspired by the geography, culture, and interconnectedness of the Yampa Valley itself. At its center is a single sweeping line: a simple gesture that simultaneously evokes the river running through the valley, the surrounding peaks and terrain, the region’s ranching heritage, and the continuous flow of energy connecting communities across the service territory.

YVEA wasn’t just introducing a new brand; it was also preparing to celebrate 85 years of service.

The visual presence had to create momentum for what was next, while honoring its legacy and established roots.

The visual system extended that same philosophy through a flexible logo suite, warm photography, landscape-inspired colors, and graphic elements that reinforced ideas of connection, adaptability, and progress.

The new brand was embraced through an integrated internal rollout.

The result wasn’t simply a refreshed identity. It was a renewed sense of alignment.

A shared language with clearer understanding of what makes YVEA different and a brand capable of honoring 85 years of history while confidently stepping into the future.

The storytelling you’ve created for our brand is so solid. You can really see the progression to understand where we’re at and why it makes sense for us.
